It rained all weekend long. After snowing all week.
You’d think that would be a good thing, but instead of melting all the snow like one would hope, it turned all of this into one giant sheet of ice.
I wanted so badly to run outside, but after almost bailing four times just walking the dog around my block, it was pretty clear the safest option was my treadmill.
I wanted to tackle a long run, but my patience on the treadmill is pretty low. After half an hour I tend to get really bored, start watching the clock, and complaining to myself about how boring it is. It is a great way to sabotage an otherwise perfectly good run.
But with the help of my laptop and Greys Anatomy, I managed to do a solid 5 miles. It took forever, because for some reason I’m slower on the treadmill than outside, but I did it and that’s what counts.
It also helped that I had Lexie there to talk to when I got especially bored. My treadmill is in my parent’s garage, and she refuses to stay in the house when I’m out there, so she just lays on the floor surrounded by crap and waits for me to finish.
You’ll have to forgive the crappy picture – I took it while running. That’s hard.
The good news is that the ice is pretty much melted by now, so by the end of the week when I finally have time to run again, I should be able to do so safely. Stupid snow really messed up my routine.

We’re getting the rain after the massive snow today. I’m nervous the ice thing will be an issue, but so far it’s just slush. Luckily it’s been a pretty mild winter in these parts. I hope it all melts for you sooner than later!
That’s what happened here too. I had to scrape a sheet of ice off of the inch of snow on my car this morning.
I’m hoping the roads stay clear for a while now after this first snowfall, but I’m pretty sure by 5pm tonight it will be black ice central. And you’re such a better mom than me, when it’s cold like this, I just can’t suck it up and take Mac for a walk. Instead I play the “stairs game” where I get him to run up and down the steps for like 20 minutes. Entertaining for me- good exercise for him. Win/win.
haha I play the stairs game with Lexie too when I really don’t want to take her out. I just stand at the top and throw her ball down to the bottom until she seems tired. Its pretty great.
Yay you! Good job! I don’t have access to a treadmill or TRUST ME I would not have ran outside at all this past week!! Lol
Yeah, running in the ice could get disastrous pretty fast. Great job still getting the run in!
I’m already planning on staying at my parents’ house tonight after work because the same thing is happening here right now and I do not feel like dealing with icy roads. 5 miles on a treadmill is impressive- treadmill running is boring, so good work!
I would give my right arm to have the time to run on a treadmill right now. #newmomproblems
OMG…if your road was anything like the ice rink that was in front of our condo, you ABSOLUTELY did the smart thing sticking to the treadmill. It was brutal. However, now it’s all gone and we just have to deal with the “Monday Monsoon” that was happening when I walked to work this morning. I’ll take that over the ice ANY day. Have a great Monday!!!
We got a huge thunderstorm this morning but then it got sunny! Took an amazing walk outside to soak up the rays! Now it’s cloudy again…blah.
which part of the country do you live in?
It rained here too, but it didn’t turn into ice.
I dread running on the treadmill too! But the ice will also keep me inside. I am happy you made it through 5 miles, and that the snow is melted now!!!
Rain on top of snow is the worst! I hate it when everything is a sheet of ice!
I think it’s amazing that you ran. Inside/outside doesn’t matter. Enough said!
The snow is beautiful..of course I say this from Los Angeles. But still!
Go for you to keep it up even if the weather doesn’t cooperate. Sometimes, the weather is a way of saying “slow down” and give yourself a break sometime from the ‘ordinary’. Look up!
Awww! Too cute! Lily also lays by the treadmill and pouts until I finish. She then likes to give me a tongue bath when I’m all sweaty…ewww!
