Doing Nothing

I haven’t been sleeping well for the last couple weeks. I dont know if its allergies or what, but I just cant fall asleep. When I do, I wake up with swollen, red, tired eyes. It hurts just to keep them open. I almost feel like I should take a day off work just so I can have a nap. Its not a good time.

I really wanted to go for a run yesterday, but I was just too tired. Instead, I took Lexie for a walk where we had another war. She wiggled out of her harness and tried to attack the beagles through the fence. It was pretty much awful. She of course, was super proud of herself. (for any new readers, these beagles have tried to kill her a bunch of times – her hatred is understandable, just unacceptable)

I feel like I should be wearing a sandwich board that says, “it doesnt seem like it, but shes actually really sweet.”

Sigh.

After soaking my dog, I made myself some dinner. I wasnt really in the mood to cook anything fancy, so I stuck with an easy stir fry. I used bulgur for the first time ever, and I really liked it.

The star was really the sauce though. I made Andrea’s Honey Almond Butter Dressing and thats what put it over the edge.

After dinner I considered doing some weights, but again, I decided I’d rather just rest. So instead, I ate some chocolate and had a bath.

The most eventful part of my evening came right before bed when I was walking Lexie and she tried to eat a bulldog. The dogs owner had nothing but patience, and sat his dog down while I calmed Lexie, and they laid on the sidewalk together for twenty minutes. Calmly. I kind of wanted to cry I was so relieved.

Hopefully I run into him again, because that kind of practice is exactly what we need.

I should also mention that once again, I was not wearing a bra. Seriously, when will I learn?

  • haha you should just get some tanks with built in bras for these evening walks :) Poor Lexie, just wants to say hi to her friends! I actually do the whole Cesar Milan “TSSTTT!” noise and pull back on the leash once and that actually seems to help… or I just like making that noise. Either way.

  • Yeah, maybe Lexie just needs more encounters with nice dogs? So she doesn’t want to hurt all dogs?

  • Poor Lexie…she needs a friend. Maybe it’s time for you to get another dog!!! hahaha!

I put my dogs in Doggie Daycare once a week so they socialize. It helped a lot (well, that and they also learned other bad behavior from other dogs so you win some you lose some). Bulgar is probably my 3rd favorite meat sub to cook with (lentils and quinoa are 1 and 2). Are you using a new detergent to wash your sheets? I did that once. Never again. Woke up with HIVES!!

  • Was bulldog owner attractive? Could be a really great way to get a date (aka – not wearing the bra).
I hope you get some sleep, I totally feel you there!

It’s seriously annoying to hear that your neighbour [well, your neighbour's dogs, more specifically] can get away with acting that way towards Lexie. :| I get why you say you would need a sign that denotes how sweet she is… but hopefully any sane person can just look at her face and see that! She looks adorable in that picture you have here. :>

Bulgur = super convenient, I find. I never considered a meat sub, before, though…

Hope you get to run into more dog owners like that – while wearing a bra, of course, haha – so Lexie can get in that much-needed “practice”!

  • LOL at the no bra thing…you sound like me. Except, sadly, I don’t NEED a bra.

Lexie and the bulldog lying next to each other…aw! I can just picture it :)

  • Sounds like allergies to me. Not being able to sleep well is the worst, I feel ya. I’m glad Lexie had some good practice with a nice dog! Do you have any low-key (ie, not crowded) dog parks near you?

  • I hope you get some sleep. I’ve been feeling the same way lately. I think it’s most definitely related to allergies. Maybe try benadryl? It will help your allergies and make you sleepy.

  • Sorry you have been so tired…the bulldog hanging out with Lexie is definitely a good idea and great practice for trying out her good doggie manners.

If Lexie is an escape artist, this harness may help:

It did with our escape artist. We also love how customizable these harnesses are. For our black beauty it was Classic Hawaiian with navy blue embroidery. Very chic.
